Counting the Omer

The j-blog superstars over at Jewschool reported today:

Counting the Omer is providing 49 different reasons (1 a day) to go vegetarian.

Forty-nine posts in 49 days about counting the omer and going vegetarian? Who would undertake such a project? If you guessed heebnvegan, you'd be correct! So far I've talked about the young ages farmed animals are slaughtered at, the close confinement of farmed animals, salmonella, smelling better than meat-eaters, making kashrut easier, working conditions in slaughterhouses, why farmed animals aren't protected by the law, and the painful bodily mutilations that farmed animals undergo without any painkillers. To count the omer, read what I've written so far, and check back in for the next 41 days, go to http://countingtheomer.blogspot.com.

I'm planning to devote most of my blogging for the time being to Counting the Omer. Feel free to keep checking back in at heevnvegan from time to time, but Counting the Omer will be updated daily. I'll stop blogging on Counting the Omer and return full-time to heebnvegan after Shavuot.

I encourage everyone to tell their friends and family members about Counting the Omer! I think there's some humor and novelty value to it because I have a blog that's specifically devoted to counting the omer (after 49 posts, no more new ones!). But I also think it's a great way to get people, particularly Jews, to learn about the myriad different reasons to go vegetarian.
